Horse Lease
Lease your favorite horse or pony!
Riders moving beyond beginner lessons are invited to lease their chosen lesson horse. This empowers the rider to build a relationship, riding the same horse or pony in every lesson. This invitation applies to riders who have gained confidence riding independently. Leases are not available to riders attending Pony Diaries or beginner programs.
A lease is one step closer to having your own horse. It is a fee paid in addition to lessons and for a commitment of six months. Leasing a horse gives you a guarantee of riding the same horse in each lesson (unless they are lame or unrideable for some reason). It also gives you a shared storage space to keep your things at the barn - storing your helmet, vest, tack, brushes etc at the barn is only available to leasing riders.
The lease fee also contributes to covering horse-specific expenses like farrier visits, medications and vet call outs. (For reference, the farrier comes approximately every six weeks and charges $140-160 to care for the horses hooves and reshoe as needed. Vet call outs start at $300 a visit and up, depending on treatments needed.)
There are many benefits to leasing for riders. Getting to know a horse is like getting to know a person in many ways. A partnership with a horse or pony gives the rider a platform to build confidence, trust and connection with their equine friend. Together, there is always the aspiration towards a perfect horse and rider partnership!
Leases are normally a minimum of six months and are required for at least 6-8 weeks prior to competing in registered shows like three day events to help ensure the best outcome for horse and rider. Leasing riders get priority to attend shows, however leases are not required to attend local shows such as El Sueno, TNT or CDS shows.
Most barns typically charge a half lease fee which is half the cost of keeping the horse (covering board, feed and farrier). We are currently charging far less than that, a nominal monthly fee for the option of always knowing who you will ride, and keeping your things at the barn.
Lease fees are in addition to lesson fees, $100 to $180 per month.
-
One day a week leasing for lessons is $100 a month.
-
Two days a week leasing for lessons is $180 a month.
The lease fee reserves your selected horse for your lessons, and gives you a saddle rack and storage area. Independent riding can also be booked on your leased horse, no added fee for your leased horse preference.
