VOLUNTEER

Our volunteer helper team often helps care for the animals, support lessons and special events.

ADULTS

We can connect you with opportunities to help muck and feed if interested! It is GREAT gentle exercise.

LEADERS (ages 9+)

A Leader knows basic safety around horses, and can support our beginner riders to muck, groom and tack their horses. A junior lead may not yet know how to fully tack a horse themselves, but they are welcoming, communicative and supportive. They can take direction and model good horsemanship to our beginner riders. Leaders help riders on horseback directly during beginner lessons.

JR APPRENTICES (typcially ages 11+)

A Jr Apprentice knows how to fully tack a horse themselves, including bridling and can independently support beginners to be 100% ready to ride, as well as leading during lessons. Jr Apprentices are familiar with the character and tack for multiple horses and can troubleshoot tack issues. Jr Apprentices may also help with turnout of horses and other barn duties, as directed. Jr Apprentices are able to stay focused and complete duties with minimal direction.

DURING SHIFTS

During work time, tasks are as directed by the instructor being supported. Please prioritize the care of the student you are assigned to help and then others in the lessons if your student doesn’t require assistance at a certain time. If no help is needed, you are expected to ask your instructor to assign you extra suitable tasks. Work shifts do not include time spent caring for the horse a helper will ride unless as directed.

Phones, Devices & Personal Items

During your time helping at the ranch, phones and devices are not to be used or carried everywhere. They can be kept in a locker or bag. During work time there is also no homework or other personal work out on the tables.

Self Care & Preparation

When coming to help at the ranch, please eat before you come and pack food you can easily eat without mess. Please bring plenty of water, a hat, sweater and a snack if staying more than 2 hours, all are good steps for self care when helping which will make it easier for you to give your attention to the person you are helping.

HELPER TRAININGS

We host trainings every few months.

This is an opportunity to receive focused progressive training in horsemanship.
As appropriate, trainees are invited to participate by committing to a regular shift as a volunteer helper, and are invited to our work project days. During summer, they are also invited to participate as Jr Counselors for our week long programs, where they ride daily.  This is a progressive learning program for our helpers.

We are very grateful that we can offer such an incredible leadership and communications opportunity to our skilled riders!!
