Our Jr Apprentices are at the heart of learning at the ranch.
We are excited to spend more time growing skills with our apprentices in the coming year, and are offering a new specialized program, for the duration of the year, in three semesters, October to December (9 weeks for homeschoolers, 12 weeks for afterschool), January to March (12 weeks) and April to June (10 weeks).
Our Jr Apprentices are:

Good riders who want to become great riders

Communicative and helpful to other riders

Interested in learning about & assisting with horse training

Available to volunteer

Able to complete tasks as assigned, reporting back as appropriate.

Age 9+, Proficient at walk, trot, canter, bridling

Ride twice or more weekly

3 hours minimum weekly volunteering
Skills and Areas of learning:

Communication, autonomy & teamwork

Horse riding, handling, lunging & turnouts

Grooming - bathing, mane pulling, braiding, bridle paths and more

Assisting with retraining our rescue horses (may include riding suitable mounts)

Tack cleaning & maintenance

Basic horse first aid

Horse & human anatomy
Schedule
Core Hours for Homeschoolers $170 per week:
8am - 10:30am Mondays (optional) - training only, no riding lesson
8am-12pm Wednesday & Thursday - includes riding lessons and apprentice skills training time
Volunteer hours (see below)
Core Hours for Afterschoolers $147-170/ week
(includes 2 lessons - one is included Thursdays, and a second other scheduled lesson - if jump club, the total per week is $170, if a riding lesson, total is $147 per week):
3:30-7pm Thursdays - apprentice training & riding lesson (will be riding after dark in the later part of the season)

Apprentice Volunteer Times

Mondays or Tuesdays 1-4pm or 3-6pm
Wednesdays 3-6pm
Thursdays 3-6pm
Saturdays 11-2pm
